Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Art Deco burr walnut two-door single-piece bow front wardrobe, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. Comprising of an elegant Art Deco “cloud shaped” design, the wardrobe features two doors over two large drawers below. The front boasts stunning mirror matched burr walnut veneers with the original vertical tapered handles and figured walnut sides. The door retains the original working lock (with key).
The left door features two latches, which keep the door closed whilst the right hand door is open. Inside the wardrobe is a fitted interior. Starting from the top, there is a wooden hanging rail. The left door retains the original metal hanging trouser bar. On the right hand side is a bank of storage compartments. The top two compartments are “open” with two drawers below, featuring beveled glass fronts and the original small-ebonized knobs. Further below, there are two further “open” storage compartments. Below there are two large sycamore lined dovetailed drawers, each of which retain the original handles. The wardrobe sits on a recessed plinth and back features solid backboards. This is a single piece, which does not dismantle.
The item would be at home in any traditional or contemporary setting and consumes very little space. This piece boasts classic art deco styling in the overall design of the curved moulded frame, corners, clean lines to the tops, the handles and the plinth.
This wardrobe features a rich burr walnut colour, with a satin polish finish. It has a lovely colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
External Dimensions:
Height = 181cm or 71¼” or 5ft 11¼”
Width = 106.5cm or 42” or 3ft 6”
Depth = 58.5cm or 23” or 1ft 11”
Condition Report:
This wardrobe is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The wardrobe retains its original interior, including hanging rails, trouser bar and internal compartments. The doors retain their original door latches, handles and working lock (with key). Importantly, there are no splits or warps to the doors, which ensures they close flush to the wardrobe frame. The drawers below also retain their original handles and feature quality sycamore lined drawers, and also close flush to the frame. The wardrobe retains its original backboards and it stands on its original recessed plinth. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
