Estate Made Chest on Chest of Tall Drawers c.1840

The estate made stained pine chest having an arrangement of six graduating drawers, three above three, the top section detachable from the lower, each showing the original turned brass mounted knob handles, the dovetailed carcass showing an exceptional colour and crusty patination, the original dark stained finish now distressed commensurate with age surviving from the second quarter of nineteenth century England.
The chest shows masses of character with some beautiful patination, bitumen and overall pleasing colour all commensurate with its age, the drawers run smooth with the carcass is structurally sound. There is only one section of loss, which is the veneer section to the very lower front section. The handles are original and beautifully worn and there appears to be no replacements pieces or repairs as such. There are some remains of an old paper label to the very top of the piece.
The form and shape of this piece suggest it may have been part of the scullery or servant’s quarters in a large country estate and used for kitchenalia, housekeeping or foodstuffs. It’s also feasible they are shop counter drawers as part of an apothecary for example and in this instance it may have been part of a larger composition though it is certainly a standalone piece in its own right.
A very useful and versatile piece of decorative estate made antique furniture with a superior texture that will be hotly sought after.
