Exceptional Antique Chinoiserie Wardrobe

This is a fine and rare late 19th century Chinoiserie wardrobe dating from around 1890. The fabulous rich deep burgundy red lacquer is stunningly detailed with wonderful traditional Chinese scenes much of which is raised in relief with beautiful gilding. The robe is quality constructed in solid mahogany with hand painted detail throughout, sponged marbling and hand applied gilt highlights with stencilled borders.
The wardrobe is a very rare piece indeed, particularly in this fine rich burgundy shade which is exceptionally hard to find.
For a similar example please see “Villa Astor Paradise Restored on The Amalfi Coast” former residence of William Waldorf Astor 1848-1919, noted as the richest man in the world at the time and owner of the Waldorf Astoria, New York’s most lavish hotel. The furnishings in this informative book include a similar robe (page 200) in the master bedroom.
The wardrobe measures 203 cms in height, 116 cms wide at the cornice and 112 cms wide at the base. It is 54 cms deep. The cornice base and doors can be removed for transportation. The largest section is the cabinet which on its own is 175 cms high 105 cms wide by 45 cms deep. Inside it has a solid mahogany shelf with metal hanging rail beneath.
UK delivery can be arranged with our local courier and costs £80 plus vat to most areas.
