Exquisite 17th C. Delft Chinoiserie Bottle Vase

An exquisite and rare, miniature delft bottle or 'pear-shaped' vase, dating to the second half of the 17th Century (circa 1650 - 1700).
Dutch in origin and decorated in the chinoiserie style, echoing the Transitional wares of 17th Century China, shortly after the fall of the Ming dynasty.
The design, painted in the round with a glorious deep blue, depicts three Dogs of Fo (or temple lions) interspersed with springs of flowering prunus and all set below a stylised ruyi collar at the shoulder. Sharp pendant lappets decorate the slender neck.
The design is charming and wonderfully naive. The dogs what with their hairy, scampering feet, square-set jaws and staring 'bug eyes' are a joy.
This is a rare and highly collectable little vase, I've never seen one quite like it.
It represents a unique and undeniably characterful addition to any antique delft / chinoiserie collection. Email or call for any further information on this item. We give great attention to each and every item we select and offer for sale, priding ourselves on the accuracy of our descriptions and research.
