F. E. Jamieson Oil Canvas Queen's View Dated 1912
We are offering this very well painted oil on canvas by the artist F. E. Jamieson, who has signed the painting to the lower left hand corner with his pseudonym J. H. Boel, with the first three letters painted monogrammatically, and dated it 1912. The painting depicts a Highland landscape with a long loch meandering through a mountainous region. Typically, there is no location on the stretcher, which he often inscribes on his 24" x 16" paintings, but not the 30" x 20", for some reason. However, we have seen this particular view described on some of his smaller canvases as Queen's View.
F. E. Jamieson was a painter in oil and watercolour of highland landscapes and coastal scenes. (The work of this highly prolific artist is curious since the oils and watercolours have two quite distinctive styles and subject matter. The oil paintings are most frequently seen and these are highland landscapes or loch scenes - sometimes they appear to be signed with pseudonyms such as 'W. Richards' and 'Phil Hips' - the location is usually inscribed on the reverse. The watercolours are often coastal scenes with boats and figures on a shore, painted in a more traditional Victorian style, and possibly pre-date the oils. F. E. Jamieson's beach scenes were published as postcards around 1920 by G. Ajelli & Co. of London on a textured card to give the appearance of an oil. Jamieson is known to have travelled widely in the South of England between the wars selling his work but does not appear to have exhibited.) Jamieson etc., although he is most commonly known as Francis. As there has never been a biography of him that gives birth and death dates or any other details about his life, it may well be that all these names are pseudonyms. You may also find some listings under his various pseudonyms of Arnould Pienne, Graham Williams, Aubrey Ramus, J. H. Boel, F. Walters, Joel Owen, Henry Cooper, C. McKinley, H. James, Stanley Graham, Montgomery Ansell, H. B. Davis, Stanley Penn, A. de Perrin, C.Frater, W. Richards, etc .
The painting is framed in a very nice, 3" ornate, swept, gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Medium: Oils on canvas
Condition: Very good. The canvas is in clean, taut condition and there are no repairs or paint loss. There is some craquelure and faint stretcher marks consistent with age. The frame is new.
