F. Maund & E. Berg Shop Display Cabinet Oak 1910

This is a great example of the high quality workmanship and design expertise of London based firm F. Maund & E. Berg. Specialists in shop fittings they manufactured this large display cabinet at the turn of the 20th Century, around 1910.
Fine quality oak has been used for this extremely sturdy shop cabinet. Its slim looking design has allowed the use of large pieces of glass. Made with the aim of bringing as much light into the cabinet as possible to show off the merchandise, both sides and the top panel are glazed. The interior shelves are all made of glass, hence the light can travel evenly throughout the case from top to bottom.
The front of the cabinet is fitted with a large glazed door on brass hinges. Access to the display space is gained by operating a stylish brass turn handle. As mentioned the show case is fitted with glass shelves, and all four of them rest on their original brass supports with each level evenly spaced around 7 inches.
The cabinet is fitted with the original back panel made out of stained and fused wooden strips. The bottom section of the inside space is covered with wood close in colour to the back. A small off-white plaque with the makers name and address is nailed on too.
We prefer the original shop look of this retail display cabinet. The new owner can decide on possibly adding a mirror plate or a coloured baize to the back of this unit. If necessary the shelf brackets can be unscrewed and fixed onto different heights. Individual shelves can be removed completely if needed.
This is an extremely useful piece with ample display space which can still be used for its original purpose of showcasing merchandise. Apart from the use in a retail environment it could also be used in a home or office. It would look amazing standing on top of a kitchen worktop, resting against a side wall. It could house a collection or display a number of decorative items, the list is almost endless.
Although designed for standing on top of another unit, it could be placed directly onto a floor surface as the base is beautifully finished with a mitred skirt moulding. Because of the large amount of glass and weight involved we recommend attaching the cabinet to a sturdy wall.

Condition We found this antique shop fitting in great condition. The original look and patina have been carefully retained to keep the warm character of this lovely piece. The case has been thoroughly cleaned, inside and out. There are a few age and use related marks and scratches on the wood as well as the glass. High quality natural wax has been applied to bring out the grain of the oak and a light polish completes the look. This stylish antique retail glass cabinet from Edwardian times is now ready for its next custodian.

We thank you very much for shopping with Rocco Antiques. Your support is very much appreciated, it means that we can continue to offer our customers a range of beautiful antiques and collectables.
We do our very best to describe our items with an accurate and detailed description. High quality photography accompanies all our listings. Due to the restrictions of this medium it is not always possible to represent the precise size, appearance or colours of a product fully.
The used and aged nature of antiques and vintage items means that it is not always possible to describe or photograph every imperfection, blemish, dent or scratch. The vast majority of our customers will know this and not expect to receive their antique in factory new condition. The worn look is a large part of the charm of buying old pieces after all.
We try to give the best information possible in our product descriptions. If known we provide details about the age, history, style, materials and of course the provenance of a piece. However Rocco Antiques cannot guarantee any of this information, it can only be given as a guide. By appointment we can provide the opportunity to view a piece in person.
As with all internet purchases we allow our customers 14 days to return any items. Unfortunately we are not able to contribute to the cost of returning your purchase. For returns we recommend that an insured and tracked delivery service is used by the customer.
Transportation damage caused by our delivery partner must be reported within 48 hours. We will do our utmost to help with an agreeable solution for the encountered issue. Please note that we cannot accept the worn and used condition of our antiques and collectables as a reason for reporting a damaged item.
If you have any problems, no matter how small, we will do our very best to find a solution for you. We pride ourselves on our customer service and want all our customers to be completely happy with their purchased goods and shopping experience.
