This is a fabulous Chinese finely carved red altar table dating from the 19th Century.

The top is full of character varying in colour from burnt orange to a deep terracotta red. It has a lovely lustre with plenty of marks from its long life. One of the planks has a filled shrinkage split.

Both the front and back are finely carved which means that the table could be placed in the centre of a room if required. The front has two drawers with brass loop handles and white metal back plates. There is hidden storage below the drawers.

Dimensions: 161 cm wide x 63.5 cm deep x 89 cm height (63 1/4" x 25" x 35")

Condition: This table has been through a Chinese restoration workshop in its more recent history. The drawer linings have been replaced as have some of the reticulated corner brackets. There has been a rather too liberal use of wood filler in places but this hasn't spoiled the appearance.

This table has plenty of room presence and would be equally impressive in a hallway as in a dining room. It would also fit comfortably alongside country antique furniture as well as more refined antique pieces.
