This is a stunning and most decorative, rare Indian Majus dowry chest with wonderfully hand painted and gilded detail dating from around 1880. The chest has a fabulous design with blind fret carving and pierced carved detail as well as many finials and hanging bell style turnings that are suspended from the four hand carved horses heads at the corners of the piece. This has a wonderful patina and gorgeous colour with beautiful raised roundel details throughout in the form of Indian Dhals or shields. The chest has its original hand forged ironwork hinges, subtlety overpainted as part of the design and the original ironwork clasp to the door. The cabinet has very pretty floral painted motifs to the framework and traditional tribal style line carving to the panel surrounds and decorative front legs. The colour and patina of the chest is truly remarkable, the best example we have ever seen.

The cabinet measures 112 cms wide 83 cms high by 60 cms deep.
