This is a tall, elegant etched glass vase with a hallmarked sterling silver rim dating it to 1911 at the start of the reign of George V. It is handblown with 10 sides which broaden out at the top and the bottom to form the neck and base. There is a simple but highly attractive fern design etched on the front and back. The top of the vase is capped by the sterling silver rim.

Condition is very good with no chips or cracks. There are a few tiny bubbles in the glass, as you would expect from a handblown piece. The pontil mark on the base of the vase has been neatly ground down. The silver rim has a couple of small dings from use but no splits and looks very good to the eye.

The hallmarks on the rim are the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London and the date letter "q" for 1911. The makers' mark is a little rubbed with W and H clear to read and a third letter which I believe is a further W, which would be the WHW mark for William Harrison Walter, who was known to make silver rims for vases, jars decanters etc.

The vase is 23.8cm high with a diameter of 8.3cm across the base. It weighs 284g.
