Fine French Kingwood Parquetry Writing Table
A very fine French late 19th- early20th-century Louis XVI style kingwood parquetry and ormolu-mounted ladies writing table. Circa 1890-1900.
The cubed parquetry inlaid rectangular top with outset circular corners having an inlaid and crossbanded border surrounded by a very fine brass mould. The frieze repeats the parquetry pattern with a finely beaded mould, fitted with a front drawer having a central plaque depicting satyrs carrying a drunken Bacchus eating grapes.
Each corners being mounted with gilt florettes and stand on tapering fluted legs with ormolu collars and terminate on foliate sabots.
To the underside is a label with the name “A Mayer” which could possibly have been the maker of this fine table.
With the rear mirroring the front this French table is finished to all side so be able to stand freely within the room if needed.
Offered in excellent condition having been recently polished using traditional methods whilst retaining its lovely faded colour.
The mounts are of excellent quality and with good proportions. This is a finely made table.
