Fine KPM Berlin Porcelain Figural Salt Cupid &Well

A very sweet, beautifully modelled porcelain figural table salt from KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur), the Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Berlin. Of unusual and striking form featuring Cupid stood beside an old brick well, one leg kneeling on the edge as he fills a gilt and floral painted water jug. He has gilded wings and quiver of arrows slung over his shoulder on a purple strap and has a floral stole partially draped around him. Beautifully decorated and his little rosy bottom is sure to bring a smile!
The base is decorated with naturalistic moulded stone ground and grassy tufts and a small shrub set to his side, the brickwork is marked out with gilding and finished with a gilt rim. Inside the concave shaped base is skilfully painted with an exotic bird in a tree (possibly a Northern Cardinal) set in a shrubby landscape. Cupid's left hand is held open, to act as a holder for a spoon. Sceptre mark to the base, c.1870.
It measures 11cm (4 5/16") high and 11cm (4 5/16") by 7.6cm (3") wide.
In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. Some handling wear to the gilding but minimal to the enamels. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
