Fine London Bow Front Stick Barometer barometer stick F Pastorelli %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a very fine Georgian bow fronted stick barometer made by F .Pastorelli , 10 , New Bond St , London 1880 which is in outstanding original condition which is in perfect working order.
The maker is Francis Pastorelli who was part of the family dynasty which made high quality instruments for 150 years from the Holborn area of London and later moving to other premises in the centre . Francis had premises in Hatton Gardens ,Piccadilly , Bond St and Great Warner Street. He was renowned for creating elaborate barometers elaborately inlaid with brass and mother of pearl.
This is a more restrained instrument and uses mahogany veneer which have a wonderful colour and highly figured grain which serves to highlight the silvered scales . The cistern cover is ebonised and the bottom of the instrument has canted corners which are inlaid with ebony lozenge shaped stringing and the edges of the front also have ebony stringing.
The silvered and engraved scales are signed by the maker and the pediment has a cushion moulding which is removeable to give access to the scales.
The condition throughout is exceptional and will delight the most discerning client. The original finish is present which has been cleaned to bring back the high quality of the polish
The images give a reasonable depiction of the instrument but as this type of barometer are very difficult to photograph due to reflections. In the flesh the quality and finish are more apparent and I suggest that any interested parties view the item as they will certainly not be disappointed.
Bow front barometers were always very expensive and subsequently are quite rare , particularly the better examples. Even in modern times demand has always outstripped supply as they will fit into any home new or old.
The barometer is 39 long inches long
If the asking price is paid in full I will deliver and set up the barometer free of charge in England , Wales and the Scottish lowlands.
