Fine Quality Grand Parisian 19thC Bookcase
A very good quality and imposing 19th century French mahogany and brass mounted bookcase or vitrine circa 1880 by the Parisian cabinet making firm Robert Dennery Sousman & Robinot.
The quality of craftsmanship cannot be underestimated on this bookcase /vitrine, the timbers used have been finely chosen with excellent quality brass mounts and mouldings, true of a Parisian maker.
Standing at 7 ½ feet high the moulded cornice having panelled brass mounts with brass strapped rounded corners sits over two long bevelled edge glazed doors flanked with a fine pair of full length turned and brass fluted columns with brass turned capitals. The doors open to reveal four slightly later inlaid oak adjustable shelves with a base board to the bottom. The panelled oak back having the makers label attached to the middle. Raised on toupie feet with brass mounts and having two oak lined drawers to the base with sliding dust overs.
This is a fine quality bookcase / vitrine in superb condition having been gently restored using traditional methods with a wonderful colour and choice of timber. There is an original working key and it dismantles into sections so for ease of transport and delivering into the home.
The makers Robert Dennery Sousman & Robinot of 6 Rue Moreau Paris were cabinet makers of fine quality antique furniture as of most Parisian makers. Their name has appeared on quality furniture with a table of theirs recently making $50,000 in a Sotheby’s sale in New York
