Fine Victorian Davenport
A top quality Victorian burr walnut davenport. Often referred to as a’’ Harlequin’’ , ‘’Jack in the Box’’ , or ‘’Rise and Fall Davenport ‘’. The fall lifts to reveal 2 boxwood veneered drawers and a pull out and adjustable writing slope with hand dyed green leather and gold and blind tooling. To the side is a pen tray and space for 2 ink pots. The right hand side drawer has a catch which when released allows the domed top, secret stationary compartment to rise on a weighted counterbalance . The top lifts over to reveal another pierced gallery. Inside is a shaped boxwood stationary compartment . To the right side are 4 mahogany lined drawers with original turned knobs , brass locks (with keys) and escutcheons with opposing dummy drawers. The whole standing on turned feet with sunken brass and porcelain castors.
