Four Leather & Rosewood Safari Chairs c.1950.
True set of four remarkable leather and rosewood safari chairs c.1950. Influenced by 19th.c. British military campaign antique furniture safari chairs are designed for ease of transport so they could be easily carried between camps and as such they are completely demountable, held together with leather straps and buckles. Despite their utilitarian origins these chairs are surprisingly comfortable with a raked seat and pivoting backrest. Considerable attention has been paid to the design and construction with shaped front staves and smart brass fittings. The chairs are in very good condition apart from one replacement leather back strap they retain all their original leather, buckles and brass. The frames have been freshly treated with linseed oil. Ideal for the garden or patio or perhaps as the ultimate picnic or beach chair!
