A stunning French Semainier fashioned in rosewood with extensive cross-banding matched veneers and elaborate marquetry in a variety of exotic woods. These chests were developed in the Rococo period of the early eighteenth century and were intended for storing linen. The name comes from the fact they have seven drawers, one for each day of the week, deriving from the French word for 'week' - Semaine.
