G Plan Astro 'Spider' Coffee Table in Teak & Glass
The Astro occasional table, more often known nowadays as the 'spider' coffee table, was designed by Victor Wilkins for English company G Plan in 1970, first appearing in the 1971 New Models Folder. Unlike other antique furniture of the era, the Astro table is solid wood and exceptionally well made. This table was larger and more expensive than the more common round and oval antique tables also made by G Plan at this time, which are now often (confusingly!) referred to as Astro antique tables. It is therefore more sought after, and G plan themselves call it 'incredibly rare'. The reason for the table's nickname is obvious - the curved legs have an architectural feel that makes this table a real statement piece. It would suit any vintage-inspired or modern interior.
This table is in very good, original condition, with the original factory finish, and the original glass. The wood is a lovely rich colour with beautiful and unusual grain. It has been cleaned, oiled and finished with a protective wax. There are a couple of very minor marks to the wood, and minor scratches to the original glass. We are happy to provide a competitive quote for new, replacement safety glass - please message us. Please examine the photographs and feel free to ask us any questions.
