This artwork is based on a Chippendale Gainsborough chair, Circa 1780.
It is partly constructed from discarded materials, (bronze, copper, and steel with an internal hardwood frame). This is purposed to promote worth and value through a considered approach. The chair upholstery is of the period of the original design by Chippendale and is overstuffed and hand stitched using horsehair and scrim.
I have a full series of images showing the entire process from frame to finish.
All parts have been designed and made by me including the glass ball/rocks which would be a more honest reflection of what a claw would clutch. Honest representation and social consideration are what the Arts and Craft movement stood for, as a taught descendant it is fitting that my work echo’s this ethos.
