Gents 1940s Omega bumper automatic wrist watch

Gents 1940s Omega bumper automatic wrist watch.
The watch has a 17-jewel bumper automatic movement, calibre 28.10 RA PC which was Omega's first automatic movement, and it is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 10,699,357 dates it back to the mid 1940s (this particular calibre was in production from 1943 until 1949 when it was became the calibre 340).
Early automatic movements such as this one relied on the rotor ‘bumping’ backwards and forwards between two springs to maintain the power within the movement. Later automatic watches have the fully rotational rotor.
The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel, model number 2402-1, which is correct for the calibre 28.10 movement. The shaped lugs are a particularly handsome feature.
The back of the watch has a long service inscription...
ARBED
à son fidèle collaborateur
Jean-Pierre Hentges
1924-1944
Esch-Mines
Arbed was a major Luxembourg-based steel and iron producing company with Belval being the home of the company's blast furnaces.
The case has a handful of marks but not too detrimental at all.
The winding crown is a later plain repacement.
The lens is in very nice condition.
The signed dial is in its original finish with original feuille shaped hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
