Gents 1950s Cyma wrist watch, super condition
A gents 1950s Cyma wrist watch in super condition.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, R.456, which is working nicely. The movement is signed Cyma, Tavannes, Switzerland.
Cyma was founded by two brothers, Joseph and Theodore Schwob, in 1862. In 1892 they decided to go into partnership with Frédéric Henri Sandoz, owner of Henri Sandoz et Cie. The Cyma name was officially registered in 1903. Sandoz used the most modern of manufacturing processes and produced very high quality time-pieces, trademarked as Tavannes, Cyma and Cyma Tavannes. Their excellent reputation for quality meant that by 1910, Tavannes / Cyma were one of the largest Swiss watch manufacturers in existence.
This particular watch measures 30mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs… it would suit a man with a slim wrist, or would work nicely as a lady’s watch. The case is chrome plated with a stainless steel case back and it is all in beautiful condition. The back of the watch has a 1959 long service inscription from The Cyclops Engineering Company, with the Cyma logo to the inside. Original Cyma winding crown.
The lens is in lovely condition, as is the signed dial which has original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
