Gents 1950s Doxa wrist watch

Gents 1950s Doxa wrist watch.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, signed Doxa SA, which is working nicely.
Doxa was founded by Georges Ducommun in 1889. At the age of 12, Ducommun served an apprenticeship with a reputable pocket watch maker. He went on from there to set up his own business succesful business winning trade medals all over Europe.
The company continued trading successfully, taking advantage of the breakthroughs in the automobile world. In 1908 the company patented an 8-day pocket watch which subsequently became standard equipment in Bugatti racing cars.
Following Ducommun's death in 1936, the running of the company was taken over by his son in law, Jacques Nardin (grandson of Ulysse Nardin).
This particular watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition, as is the lens.
The signed dial is in lovely condition. The hands would originally have infill but this has been removed over the years.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
