Gents Omega Seamaster wrist watch, 1961

1 of 5
UK POSTAGE ONLY FOR THIS ITEM
Gents Omega Seamaster wrist watch, 1961.
The watch has a 20 jewel automatic movement, calibre 503, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 18,041,543 dates it back to 1961.
The watch measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. In this particular case, there is some rubbing and marking commensurate with its age.
The stainless steel screw-on case back has the raised Seamaster logo to the back and the Omega logo to the inside, together with the case reference 14744 3 SC which is correct for the calibre 503 movement. There are a couple of scratches to the case back where a tool has slipped in the past.
The winding crown is probably a later replacement although it is still signed with the Omega logo.
The later lens is in good condition.
The signed dial has its original hands, seconds sweep and date display (an early form of quickset date where the hands are repeatedly moved backwards and forwards between 12 midnight and 10.30pm until the desired date is reached). There is some age related marking to the dial.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
UK POSTAGE ONLY FOR THIS ITEM ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
