George A Elcock was born in Marylebone, London during 1856 to Robert Elcock and Julia M Elcock. Elcocks father was a lodging house keeper. His mother was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Until 1871 the family lived in Marylebone. But it was this year that they moved to Live in Paddington, London. While he was here, Elcock Worked as a railway clerk for Great Western Railway until around 1875. Throughout this time Elcock painted but it wasn’t until 1883 when he was exhibited. Shown at the Brighton Pavilion Picture Gallery. Subsequently reviewed by the Southern Weekly News. “The gentle craft, No 74, by George A. Elcock, is of a very pretty female disciple of Izaak Walton, engaged at her favourite amusement, under the shadow of a Japanese umbrella and it is drawn and painted with care.”
In 1884 he married Sarah Emma Moore in Kensington, London. They lived in Kensington with their children for many years. In 1901 they moved to Croydon, London with his wife and five children. His occupation was recorded as fabric designer. His daughter Edith was a dressmaker. In 1946 Elcock died in Croydon, London.
