A large early 18th. Century walnut bureau having 2 short and 2 long drawers. The herring bone cross banded drawers with oak linings and retaining the original etched brass handles and escutcheons. The conforming cross banded fall opens to a well fitted interior consisting of 6 herring bone banded drawers, 10 pigeon holes with 2 fret drawers. The small centre lockable door with an interior drawer which when removed allows access to 2 secret compartments hidden behind the columns. (see photo). The herring bone banded slide pushes back to allow access to the well. The sides are cross banded and the whole stands on off set bracket feet. Size:- Width...43.25''/ 110cm. Depth...21.5''/ 55cm.
