Here is an example of a fine quality and rare George II Welsh oak joined high potboard dresser base and rack, displaying a fantastic deep rich oxblood colour, circa 1750, in original condition, originating from South Wales, most likely, Carmarthenshire. In South Wales, a simple lighter form of open-base potboard was common, compared to the more refined dressers made in mid and north Wales. The style and colour of this oak dresser was indicative to this area due to its hardy terrain, rich in mineral content. The dresser boasts lovely small proportions. The dresser features a cavetto cornice above a closed rack with exceptionally wide vertical pine boards. The two graduating shelves, each with plate beads (to stop plates sliding forward) can support all manner of plate sizes on three levels. There is a further plate bead on the top of the dresser base. The base has been built using the traditional peg construction method. It incorporates a three-plank top with three drawers below. The drawers feature pine drawer linings, also with pine drawer bottoms, constructed with hand dovetail joints (typical of this area from where the dresser originated). The drawer fronts feature simple but elegant scribe mouldings they also boast their original brass pear drop handles with circular brass back plates. To the top and front of the dresser can be seen a stunning deep dark rich oxblood colour. Further below, is a simple straight apron, featuring fine open fretwork carved spandrels. The base stands on three simple block legs with decorative ogee feet, which support an open raised potboard.
As the dresser features its original polish, it boasts a superb deep rich red and dark brown oxblood colour, which has been created from over 200 years of care and cleaning it has received.
This dresser is a sought after design, which makes it an excellent practical furnishing, piece and it is a stunning example of a dresser from this provenance.
This dresser is an excellent investment and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, hall way or the living room. This dresser base would certainly grace any home. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

This dresser is in good original condition. The base and rack are original to each other. There are no cup marks, burns or watermarks to the top of the dresser. The brass pear drop handles and escutcheons are all original, as are the iron hooks on the frieze. The drawers are pine lined and hand dovetailed. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic deep rich red and dark brown oxblood colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This item is well constructed, is solid in joint and ready to use.
