George III Carved Mahogany Elbow Chair c.1770

The George III mahogany pierced splat back elbow chair of exceptional colour having a distressed leather seat with hobnail trim on chamfer block legs, united by an `H` stretcher,
With an exceptionally rich colour and deep patination this well used chair is stable and there is lonely a little movement in the joints. There have been four old reinforcements to the mahogany frame,. probably in the early to mid Victorian era, which are good and honest consisting of riveted iron strapwork to the top rail corners and to the both front corners of the under-seat which is utterly charming and gives it a real sense of life and history, the iron now wonderfully worn. The leather seat is distressed but very evocative and is certainly early/mid nineteenth century, possibly even original to the chair. It is always nice to find chairs that have been repaired honestly but their essential make up left untouched.
This beautiful chair has been cherished by someone for an age, deciding to repair it themselves to preserve its life, its quality remains as vivid as its colour long may it continue.
