George III Tortoiseshell Snuff Box Navy Interest
Very fine George III Tortoiseshell & Gold Snuff Box with Navy Interest. Two gold plaques, one dated 1804, the other dated 1840. It seems that the snuff box was given to Lieutenant Hughes by his mother in 1804, and upon most likely his death was given to his son by the son's mother in 1840.
In overall excellent condition for its age, no cracks or splits in the tortoiseshell, just a few nibbles inside the lid's rim as can be seen in the images.
