AN 18TH CENTURY OAK ‘WESTMORELAND’ LAWN CHAIR, with a two tier back each with turned vertical spindles and pierced shaped top rail. Two curved arm supports, four square legs united by stretchers and lawn rails. These chairs are also known as Lancaster chairs, and are known to originate in the North Country. Also known as “Drunkard’s Chairs”, because of their exceptionally wide and low seats. Reference plate LVIB, page 126, The English Chair, Its History and Evolution, M. Harris & Sons 1937.‍
