George Payne Ludlow Georgian Longcase Clock
A Shropshire Georgian longcase clock of slim proportions. An oak case with an arched hood pediment. Gilt wooden capped hood side columns. A arched trunk door and chamfered trunk sides. A brass and silvered engraved dial with corner spandrels. A domed name boss to the arch engraved 'Geo Payne Ludlow'. Blued steel hands with date and seconds. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
George Payne of Ludlow is recorded in Elliott's 'Shropshire Clock and Watchmakers' book as working from 1737. This example dates to circa 1770.
