George V Silver Plate Teapot, George Wish & Co
This is a very solid and stylish George V Silver Plated Teapot from the 1920s/30s. The teapot was made in Sheffield by George Wish & Co Ltd and dates to the period 1921 to 1934, when the company ceased trading. George Wish was originally a partner is Sampson & Wish but left to form his own company in 1877.
The teapot has a beaded and studded band around the top and bottom of the body and fan decoration at the end of the spout. There are bakelite insulating rings at the top and bottom of the handle, which means it is cool to the touch when pouring.
Whilst the teapot has definitely seen regular use, condition is good for the most part but there are a couple of small areas of plate loss on the handle and another at the base of the spout. These are the two areas that get the most usage and often show the first signs of wear, especially after over 85 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teapot is 24cm / 9.4" from spout to handle, the body is 12cm / 4.7" in diameter and it's 16.8cm / 6.6" high to the top of the finial. It weighs 692g / 24.4oz.
The marks on the bottom of the pot are GW over S for George Wish, Sheffield, EPBM for Electro Plated Britannia Metal, product & piece numbers and "Made In England" which gives us a date likely to be after 1921 when this became compulsory for export.
