George V Silver Toast Rack, F.C. Richards, 1924
This is a smart George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack from the 1920s. The rack has a rectangular base on four bracket feet with round arched dividers and a roughly diamond shaped handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toast rack is made in Birmingham by silversmiths F.C. Richards and dates to 1924. Founded in 1923, the firm made a range of domestic silverware through the 1920s and 30s but ceased trading around the start of the Second World War in 1939.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 100 years of good service on the breakfast table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toast rack is 7.5cm / 2.9ins long, 5.8cm / 2.3ins wide and stands 8.8cm / 3.5ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 61.0g / 2.15oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the side of the base, are a little rubbed at the bottom but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter z for 1924 and the F.C.R makers' mark for F.C. Richards.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
