George V Silver Vesta Case, Jos. Gloster, 1912
This is an attractive early George V Sterling Silver Vesta Case. The vesta case has scroll engraving to back and front with a pinprick border and a shield shaped blank cartouche. There is a ring to attach the vesta to a watch chain or chatelaine.
The vesta case is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Joseph Gloster Ltd and dates to 1912. Founded in the late 1880s, Joseph Gloster's firm was highly successful, producing a huge range of silverware from their Lion Silver Works in Birmingham and remaining in business until around 1980.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of good service. The hinge is in good working order and the case snaps tightly shut. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vesta case measures 4.1cm / 1.6ins by 3cm / 1.2ins and weighs in at a respectable 20.9g / 0.74oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter n for 1912 and the distinctive J G Ltd makers' mark for Joseph Gloster Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
