Georgian 18C mahogany chest on chest of drawers
Antique Georgian 18C (possibly early 19C) mahogany chest on chest of drawers.
This piece of antique furniture is very special. The chest on chest has the the most wonderful age and style that you will find. The drawer fronts are veneered in flame mahogany. The drawers slide freely and are oak lined.
What appears to be mostly original handles (or certainly period), although one escutcheon has been clearly replaced.
This piece of furniture is very imposing and impressive, whilst being very functional and practical.
We would expect a piece of this quality to sell for £4-6000 or more, in a good antique shop.
These are very rare and sought after.
There are signs of some restoration / refinishing as one would expect.
Good shape and style.
Separates into two halves for transport.
Overall dimensions 1120mmW x 600mmD x 1720mmH (865mm base plus 875mm top). Note that the top sits 20mm inside the base.
There are signs of historic knocks, marks, imperfections, damage, repairs and alterations, as you would expect given the age of the item. There is just a little historic woodworm that has been treated for good measure. We have no keys and the locks have not been checked. There are rubbing marks on all drawers below the escutcheons, where a bunch of keys has been used in the past. There is some historic cracking that has been stablised and waxfilled.
