This is an elegant George II Cuban mahogany washstand, sometimes referred to as a wig stand, in excellent condition with good colour and patina, circa 1750.

It has a moulded, ring shaped top for supporting a bowl, two central drawers with turned knobs and a dished bottom shelf for holding a water jug, all supported on three cabriole legs. The turning and shaping of the columns which support the three elements of the stand are of the highest standard.
This stand could be used to display an antique bowl or one filled potpourri, or it could be used as a plant stand. Alternatively, it can be placed in a corner, just as it is, where its sculptural qualities can be fully appreciated.

Diameter of top - 11 in (28 cm)
Foot to foot distance - 21 1/2 in (55 cm)

Condition: This washstand is in very good condition with a lovely colour and patina. There is an old, almost invisible repair to one leg and a small repair to the top edge of the lower drawer.
