Georgian Mahogany Bureau Bookcase Mahogany Bureau Bookcase Breakfront book %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
An 18th Century bureau with later bookcase top having two astragal glazed doors with three adjustable shelves.

The bureau fall opens to reveal eight pigeon holes , eight small drawers, two 'secret' drawers either side side of a centre cupboard

There are are three shorter drawers below (two are used as pull out supports for the fall) over three long drawers, all Oak lined.

In the centre drawer there is pasted, face down, an election poster for a J Wilson Patton c 1830 see Wikipedia

Interesting features here are the use of the two side drawers to support the fall, a format Gillows used, also the drop handles and the brass pegs to support the shelves are all described in Susan Stuarts 2 volume book on Gillows
