Georgian Needlework Long Prayer Stool Fender
I love these things. You can't open a copy of House and Garden without a spread of some grand room in a grand house without finding a long prayer stool placed along the hearth. It is such a rich furnishing piece to have and looks so good in that position and in that environment.
This prayer stool is a beauty. It is late Georgian, dating to around 1820 or so. The stool stands on bobbin turned legs with bobbin turned stretchers. The stool is on a slope for kneeling and comes from the time when families would have said prayers together. The stool has a needlepoint upholstery which is in very good condition and is particularly attractive showing birds on branches.
This is a very opulent period stool and a very good furnishing piece for an antique setting.
Stool in good antique condition. Joints solid. No worm or damage. Marks, minor warps etc that you expect to see in a period piece.
The stool is 7 inches high and 10 inches deep and 45 inches wide.
