Georgian Period Long Case Clock by Richard Reeves
An excellent and very rare antique Georgian long case grandfather antique clock, beautifully made from inlaid mahogany. This case was made by the well known antique clock case maker Richard Reeves in England, it can be dated from 1800-1810. The original label can be seen inside.
This is very large and of amazing quality. We are not clock experts, however the information obtained about the case maker was verified by an auction house, and we still have the documentation. Not being clock experts we don’t know much about the mechanism, except it seems to be an eight day movement, and it is in very good working order. We have given this a good clean inside and out, the original winder, pendant and weights are all in place. It works perfectly and makes a beautiful chime on the hour.
The case is beautifully made and is in very good overall condition. There is some minor wear and some tiny cracks to the veneer in places, overall it is structurally sound with a beautiful patina. There is profuse satin wood inlay and marquetry, and beautiful original brass fittings.
The top clock section has the original brass finials & Corinthian columns in brass & wood. This design is repeated on the corners of the main case below.
