Georgian Stripped Pine Mule Chest
This solid pine mule chest dates from c.1820 and is a nice country piece. The chest has a hinged top which opens to reveal a large interior, perfect for storing blankets or fabrics. Beneath this is a single long drawer. The chest is supported on bracket feet with a shaped lower apron to the front and sides. The drawer has replacement brass handles, and both the drawer and chest section retain their locks, although please note that no keys are present.
Condition: Overall this attractive piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some heavy scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected from a country piece and the chest is overall faded. The wood has been stripped and waxed at some point, but has some marks and stains in places. The drawer has some loss at the back. The piece shows some signs of old repair and restoration, and there is some old woodworm damage - the woodworm is not active, but has been retreated as a precaution. The metal fixings have some surface rusting.
