‘Gillows’ George III Cuban Mahogany Table

A fantastic quality Cuban mahogany fold over supper table with an absolutely superb colour and chatoyancy and retaining its original finish.
Attributed to Gillows of London c. 1760 – see plates GG18 and GG22 of Susan E. Stuart’s ‘Gillows of Lancaster and London’ for similar examples with these wonderful ring and twist turned legs and reeded border to the top. The table also retains its original brass hinges and original large brass casters.
Gillows only stamped or signed a small percentage of its work but its designs and the skill of its cabinet makers are as clear as a signature and here the reeded top and ring and twist turned legs with their bulb terminals are quintessentially Gillows and the table is also undoubtedly of tremendous Gillows quality having been used for over 250 years yet remains in this superb condition without repairs, worm or damage. The table top made of two thickly cut single boards of solid Cuban mahogany with triple reeded borders.
Very heavy and sturdy, level when open, really superb in every respect including the beautiful timber and craftsmanship.
A lovely sturdy and usable supper table seating four people easily which folds away to a side table when not in use.
Dimensions are:
36 inches wide, 36 inches deep when open and 18 inches deep when closed. 29.5 inches high.
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
