Gold pair cases, duplex - Johnson, London c1800
Fine and quite rare early English duplex lever movement, in gold pair cases.
MOVEMENT High quality gilded duplex fusee movement, with finely engraved balance cock, 5 spoke wheels, blued screws and large diamond endstone. All in fine original condition and running well. It is signed “Johnson, London” and numbered (1584). The movement would originally have had a removable gilt brass dustcap which is now absent.
DIAL White enamel dial. It is in quite good condition but with some short hairlines around the edge between 4 and 8, and two small repairs on the edge at 6 and 12. Nice matching gold hands.
INNER CASE Hallmarks for 18ct gold, London, 1800, maker IM. Nice condition throughout. The case snaps shut nicely and the high dome bull's eye crystal is fine. The bow is a later replacement (marked as 9 carat gold).
OUTER CASE Gold hallmarks matching the inner. The hinge and catch are again fine and the case snaps shut. There is an old repair visible on the inside of the bezel at the hinge, and the bezel is slightly twisted (it does snap shut but gapes slightly).
The cases, including crystal but not movement, weigh 68 gms. Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
