Gold pocket watch - William Frodsham, London, 1769

No. 893 22ct repousse pair cases, verge - William Frodsham, London, 1769
MOVEMENT : Beautiful gilded fusee verge movement, with large diamond endstone and engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (734). Protected by a removable gilt dustcap, signed “Wm. Frodsham, Red Lyon Square, London, No. 734”. The movement is running well.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is 36.5 mm in diameter. No repairs and in almost perfect condition with just some light surface scratches. Nice 18th century gold beetle and poker hands (repair to base of minute hand).
INNER CASE : 42.75mm. 22 carat gold, hallmarked for London, 1769, maker TL. There are some light bruises to the back of the case and the pendant and bow are gilt brass replacements, but overall a nice case. The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. Good high dome bull's eye crystal with no damage.
OUTER CASE : 50mm. 22 carat gold, with no hallmarks. A beautiful repousse case, with a little wear to the high points on the back, resulting in a couple of tiny pin holes. No repairs. The hinge and catch are fine, with a little wear to the button. The case snaps shut though with a gap between case and bezel on one side.
The gold cases, excluding crystal and movement, weigh 63 gms.
William Frodsham, of Kingsgate Street, Red Lion Square, was born in 1728. He received the honorary freedom of the Clockmakers' Company in 1781, and attested the value of Earnshaw's improvements in 1804. He took his son into partnership in 1790, and died in 1806. Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
