This is a charming, good quality brass bound camphor wood chest of nice neat proportions dating from around 1870. The chest is in excellent condition with a lovely colour and antique patina. The hinged lid has a central brass ring enclosing a plaque bearing the initials "D.D". The front edge has unusual decorative bone grips to the lid with further bone mounts to the interior and lock, which is in working order and complete with its original key. The chest also has solid brass mounts to the corners and plinth. The interior has pretty floral papered sections and a panel with an original watercolour painting of a rural scene with castellated tower, horse riders and cattle before a lake. This has its original fitted candle box to the right side. The chest has its original brass carrying handles to the sides and a moulded plinth base.It measures 77 cms long 42 cms wide by 42 cms high. You are most welcome to call and collect from Rams Head Antiques Wolsingham in Weardale Open Saturday 11am till 4pm or by appointment.Please call or email first to arrange.
