Good Pair Of Egyptian Revival Figural Candlesticks

The bronzed spelter candlesticks fashioned as opposing male and female ancient Egyptian figures holding candle sconces above their heads, with drop in brass pans, on circular stepped bases, surviving from the first quarter of the twentieth century and in the Regency style.
The condition of the candlesticks is as good as could be expected. The detailing is sharp, with textures to the figures clothing and anatomies both well rendered. The patination to the candlesticks is appealing and there is no loss or structural damage. The removable brass holders are original.
Archaeologists encouraged the exploration of Egypt in the late eighteenth century, but it was not until the 1802 publication of Dominique Denon's Voyages Dans la Basse et Haute Egypte that a resurgence in popularity of Egyptology became notable. This book depicted Egyptian architecture and was a catalyst for the crazed fashion for Egypt that swept over Regency England. These candlesticks are a product of that revival, another decade on from that period.
Beautifully balanced, crackling with style.
