Good William and Mary Oak Lowboy c. 1690
A most attractive and original William and Mary oak lowboy with elegantly turned legs united by squared original shaped channel carved stretchers, twin boarded original top and original oak lined drawer with brass teardrop handle - the handle probably original also as sits in correct position with no evidence of an earlier handle and has the perfectly smoothed surface that only centuries of use can achieve.
Peg jointed throughout, lovely colour and patina, very good condition. The top is naturally sun faded and has a lighter colour than the legs and drawer front - as is usual in a table of this age.
No later timbers, feet original, very small loss to the drawer front at the bottom left hand corner. Pegs appear original, some behind drawer frame with the correct and visible protruding tails. A couple of old worm holes to the underside - very few indeed and long since dead.
The drawer opens and closes smoothly and has a lovely half round moulded frame which matches the border moulding to the top.
A really good example of a lovely small size.
Heavy, sturdy, robust, usable - an excellent 17th century oak lowboy.
Dimensions are:
30 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep, 27.5 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
