Handsome Georgian mahogany bachelors chest, c1760

This is a small, handsome Georgian mahogany chest of four long graduated drawers with brushing slide dating from c1760.
The chest is made of the finest quality mahogany with an attractive figuring to the top and drawer fronts which plays with the light depending on the viewing angle.
The brushing slide pulls out on two small brass handles. On the drawer fronts the ornate brass swan-neck handles are not original to the chest but have some age nevertheless, and are very much in keeping with the period and the quality. More importantly, only the existing holes have been used with the result that there are no filled holes on show.
The brushing slide and drawers are all oak-lined and the back has its original stained pine backboards. The chest sits on bracket feet.
Dimensions:
Width 33 inches (84 cm)
Depth 17 1/4" (44 cm)
Height 30 1/4" (77 cm)
Condition: The chest is in good condition and possesses good colour. There are some old repairs to one of the feet and to some of the corners of the drawers. The chest has been through our workshop to remove the French polish finish which was probably applied in 20th Century. This has now revealed the true lustre of the wood, while several coats of wax have been applied to help restore its patina.
Please contact us if you would like to see more photographs.
Delivery: The chest can be delivered to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £65 by our trusted delivery man.
