Ian Pethers Ink & Wash Painting of Benson Lock

This is a small framed, signed ink and watercolour painting titled 'Benson Lock' by Ian Pethers RBA, circa 1990s. It shows the Keeper's House and lock close to Benson, Oxfordshire.
The first pound lock here was built by the Thames Navigation Commission in 1788 and it was replaced by the present masonry lock in 1870. The distance between Benson Lock and Cleeve Lock downstream is 6.5 miles (10.4 km) - the longest distance between locks on the River Thames.
Dimensions: Frame - 41 x 32.5 cm (16 1/4" x 11 3/4")
Image - 27 x 18 cm (10 1/2" x 7 1/8")
Condition: This ink drawing is in excellent condition. It was removed from the frame in order to clean the inside of the glass and replaced back in its original frame.
Biography: Ian Pethers was born in 1956 in London and took to painting at an early stage. His first major work was ‘Unloading Coal in Romney Lock’, which was exhibited and sold at the Royal Society of Marine Artists’ Exhibition in the Mall Gallery in 1985. In 1989 he was elected a member of the Society of Botanical Artists.
He moved to Cornwall in 1990 and has since illustrated several national hotel guides, designed book covers and has designed posters and maps for the local railway network.
In 2001 Ian was elected a member of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters and has won two awards for his miniature paintings of woodlands and Cornish mining relics.
His work is sold in a number of Cornwall based art galleries where individual pictures typically sell in the £250 to £400 range.
