Irish 19th Century Regency Mahogany Canterbury

A good example of an early 19th century Irish Regency period Canterbury attributed to the acclaimed Dublin cabinetmakers Gillingtons. The three division top section with spiral turned columns to each corner and distinctive finials, the divider bars supported by fine ring turned baluster shaped spindles, with a single finely dovetailed cockbeaded drawer to the base and raised on ring turned legs with original brass castors. Circa 1820.
In very good antique condition, structurally sound, and with a beautiful patina this is a useful piece of antique furniture for storing magazines and papers and since the divider rails are straight also offers a stable surface for a small tray.
The overall dimensions approximately
18in wide x 12in deep x 22 1/2in high
46cm wide x 30.5cm deep x 57cm high
Gillingtons of Dublin were a prominent family firm of cabinet makers, upholsterers, and furniture dealers active from the late 18th to early 19th century, founded by John Gillington and later run by his sons Samuel and George. They were one of the leading furniture makers in Dublin in the first third of the 19th century alongside firms like Mack, Williams & Gibton with both firms having premises on Abbey Street.
