We are offering for sale this large and delightful pastel by the artist IVOR MACKENZIE, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting depicts a footed earthenware bowl filled with white lilac and blue cornflowers.
IVOR MACKENZIE was an ex Royal Navy Commander, who was born in Grasmere in 1880 and was a self-taught watercolour and pastel artist. He was educated at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. He lived in Bournemouth and was active as an artist in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. He painted water colours of Highland scenes and the West Country moors, as well as pastels of flower subjects.
He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists and exhibited in 1940, 2 paintings at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour. He also exhibited at the Pastel Society, the Glasgow Institute and in the USA. Auction results for this artist may be found at artprice.com (18 listings), and other auction sites.
The painting is double mounted and framed in a 2" silver painted frame to complement its colouring.
