James Booth Manchester Moon Longcase Clock
An impressive Lancashire mahogany moon phase longcase clock. A fine quality case with choice flame mahogany veneers and inlays. Reeded hood columns and trunk side columns with a gothic arch door. A swan neck hood pediment with distinctive Lancashire case pediment. A crossbanded trunk panel standing on ogee bracket feet. A brass and silvered dial with corner spandrels and a well engraved dial centre. A seconds and date dial. Lunar moon phases to the arch with country painted scenes. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1785.
James Booth of Machester is recorded in Loomes' 'Lancashire Clocks and Clockmakers' book as working in 1782. The Booth family of clockmakers are noted as making quality antique clocks.
