James Mc Cabe London Longcase Clock

This stunning mahogany longcase clock by the maker James Mc Cabe of the Royal Exchange London , the case with a shaped pedestal , mounted by a brass finial over a fine moulded arched hood with brass inlaid stop fluted canted corners, with fine ebony inlays, brass bezel , glass viewing panels to the sides, the case has a fine curl mahogany veneers, moulded door , brass inlaid fluted canted corners, moulded panel base on a shaped apron this is all in a superb deep aged patination.
The twelve inch painted dial which is inscribed with James Mc Cabe Royal Exchange London with pierced blue steel hands, strike/ silent leaver with a twin train five pillar movement with arched plates , brass cased weights, wood rod pendulum with brass bob .
History of James Mc Cabe was originally from Lurgan Ireland settling at the Prestigious Royal Exchange London in 1804 he was made a freeman of the clock makers company in 1781 and a warden in 1811 , he was succeeded by his son also James , they were regarded as one of the finest clock and watch makers of the 19th Century .

This clock is stamped Handley&Moore which is on the front plate of the movement, this company were working in Clerkenwell close London from 1801-1820 Two apprentices of Thwaites supplied the trade with high quality clock movements, Handley died in 1824 the business continued under the name John Moores and Sons they were suppliers of high quality house and turret clock movements including Blair Castle , Althorp Park and Yorkminster to name a few.
This clock has had a full movement restoration and is in perfect working order.
